CERN suspended work with a scientist because of allegations of sexism

He dared to say that physics was invented and developed by men.

The administration of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has suspended work with the professor at the University of Pisa, Alessandro Strumia, because of his “unacceptable statements.” Cooperation with him terminated before the end of the investigation.

Strumia, who regularly appeared at CERN, talked about the results of his research published by one of the online libraries. Many of his theses, including representatives of CERN, were found “extremely offensive.” The scientist does not consider them as such, and says that he presented only the facts.

The speech of the professor at the University of Pisa was devoted to gender issues in the scientific community. He said that male scientists are more often subjected to gender discrimination, and this is due to political motives.

The professor said that at the beginning of a scientific career, women and men are cited equally, but over time, men are making great strides. He also presented a series of graphs about the fact that women are hired for work instead of men, although their studies are quoted least often. He is sure that high citation indicates a higher quality of men’s work.

Female scientists responded to the professor’s speech in social networks, stating the discrimination they encountered while working.
