While experts are trying to figure out whose assistant will be in every thing in the near future, the Nielsen analytical agency conducted a survey of US residents on the topic of using smart speakers. According to the results of the survey, 24% of families have a smart column, and 40% of them own several digital assistants.

On weekdays, Americans use voice assistants 65 minutes a day, on weekends – 75 minutes. The duration of use of the device also increases during the day (regardless of whether it is a day off or a working day), maximum interaction is observed in the late evening (from 19:00 to 11:59).

Most Americans use smart speakers to listen to music (90%) and find relevant information about weather and traffic (81%). It is also common to search for various factual information (75%), listen to news, talk with the assistant as a way of entertainment and use the “timer / alarm clock” function (68% each).

Among the devices that users usually synchronize with their speakers, mobile phones predominate (32%). Among other devices – TV, stereo, thermostat, lighting and safety systems, a refrigerator and so on.

According to another report from Juniper Research, by 2022 more than 70 million American households (55%) will use smart assistants and the total number of such devices in the US will exceed 175 million. According to their forecasts, on all platforms (PCs, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, cars and wearable devices) by 2022 the number of voice assistants will grow to 870 million, or 95% compared to 2017 (450 million).

The study also showed that the ability of voice assistants to exchange information between different platforms will become critically important. many users work directly with several similar assistants. However, the monetization of such services is not yet clear: users practically do not pay for the use of voice assistants, or they pay only for speech processing technologies. Analysts calculated that the revenue from the provision of various ads under certain conditions could reach $ 19 billion by 2022.
