In the new model of “smart” watches, Apple increased the display size by 35% and reduced the battery capacity, but the operating time remained the same as in the previous version of the device. This was reported by the MacRumors website referring to the official Apple document with information about the batteries.
According to the company’s website, the Apple Watch Series 4 in a 44-millimeter case received a battery at 1.12 watts-vs. 1.34 watts-hours in Series 3 (42mm), while Series 4 in a 40-millimeter case – 0.86 watts-vs. 1,07 watts-hours for the Series 3 (38mm), respectively. Thus, in the younger version the capacity of the accumulator decreased by 16.5%, and in the older one it decreased by almost 20%.
In the Apple document capacity is specified in absolute value – watt-hours (Wh). This is a more “honest” way of measuring the capacity of batteries, since the value in milliampere-hours (mAh) depends on the voltage.
Apple did not respond to a request for comments from journalists. As noted in MacRumors, it is likely that such results were achieved by switching to a more energy efficient LTPO display technology. Probably, the company also improved the S4 processor and other clock components.
Apple introduced the Series 4 at the presentation on September 12. The main innovation of the watch was the increased body and reduced frames around the screen. In addition, the watch received new sensors and functions for health.
