Game studio Jagex announced the dismissal of one of its employees, who worked on Old School RuneScape, but turned out to be unclean. His extended access to the game, he used to steal in-game currency from ordinary users. The police were involved in the proceedings, and all the gold was returned to the owners.
One of the players was abducted 45 billion units of in-game currency, which in the real world through gray areas could be sold for several tens of thousands of dollars. At first the studio believed that his account was simply hacked from the outside, but during the investigation they went to their own employee who had access to personal data of users.
Players assume that the situation with such a deep access to user data is wrong, and worry about the safety of their personal information.
