Elements of Russian reality, which with the help of a photoshop turn into collages with references to space and cyberpunk.
In January 2015, VKontakte launched the ” Rossiya.png ” community , whose creators cut out elements of Russian realities, such as old houses, vehicles or people. Then they publish these elements in png format, and subscribers using photoshop create fantastic collages on their basis.
Co-author Danil Kanaev publicly told that initially they did not put any specific idea into Rossii.png. “There was an interest in how the community will develop with some personality – there are no more similar projects with the same aesthetics and interactivity,” he recalled.
At first, the publishers did not plan that subscribers would use the works as templates for photoshop battles. But it appeared in the very first days of “Russia.” Over time, a specific idea of the community was formed.
The idea is a grotesque combination of Russian realities with something fantastic or, at least, not typical. It turns out some kind of aesthetics beautiful and ugly, sublime and low.
In collages, VKontakte users combine cut-out elements with fantasy and aesthetics of cyberpunk, and leave references to films and games. The best collages are published in the second community ” Russia.psd “
In 2017, the public had a break for almost a year – Kanayev and his friend (the founder of the project) lost interest in “Russia. But in the summer of 2018, the community started publishing works again.
Thoughts on the account of “kambek” I appeared in the spring, but before the realization came only in the summer, when I saw an advertising post with our works. One guy copied the format, doing worse from an aesthetic point of view, and in terms of quality. At the same time he advertised himself with our works.
I did not want the idea to duck, but the format slipped. So I discussed this issue with a friend, and eventually passed on to me.
