No, the US permanent representative to the UN did not really accuse Russia of involvement in the murder of his brother Kim Jong-un

TASS released unreliable news, but we did not recheck it.

On Sept. 17, the TASS agency wrote that the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nikki Hailey, allegedly accused Russia of assisting the North Korean special services in the killing of Kim Jong-Nam, the half-brother of Kim Jong-no. This news turned out to be unreliable and TASS deleted it.

The message with reference to TASS was distributed by Medusa, RBC and many other Russian publications, including  . In fact, the agency mistakenly quoted Haley: she did mention Kim Jong Nam’s assassination by North Korean special services, but did not accuse Russia of transferring biological substances. As stressed by Radio Liberty, the UN representative noted that Moscow “agreed” with the US conclusions about Pyongyang’s guilt and refused to tighten sanctions against the DPRK after the incident.

Based on unreliable information, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova said : “Apparently, we are approaching the solution of the Kennedy assassination”.

Nevertheless, Hayley really said that Russia “systematically” violates the sanctions imposed on North Korea. “Why, after voting for the imposition of sanctions 11 times, does Russia withdraw from them? Because Russia is cheating, “the US permanent representative said.
