In the orange corner – Xiaomi Mi 8, the jubilee top of the grandiose concern from the Middle Kingdom. For him I’m raking, Nikolai Maslov .
In the blue corner – iPhone X, the most sophisticated smartphone at the moment , which was developed in the US and is manufactured in China. He is expected to be loved by our supervisor Nikita Goryainov .
Ahead of you waiting for only dry facts. Read the article and vote – who is stronger. The winner will choose you .
Round one: comparison of screens. Introduction
We did not in vain focus on the country-manufacturer of smartphones.
iPhone X is assembled in factories Foxconn in China from components from around the world. The geography of Xiaomi Mi 8 is smaller, most of it is being created in China on its own lines and at the supplier plants.
But these smartphones have one detail that unites.
Both smartphones got a screen based on organic LED production … Samsung .
In the form of a part of the smartphone is a pair of nothing similar to each other panels. From a technical point of view, they are so close that you ask yourself: is there any sense in comparing the same thing?
Why the new Xiaomi is so similar to the iPhone
The display is the main reason why Mi 8 is similar to the iPhone X : Xiaomi needs the best accessories, and for saving it is forced to buy already mastered. Develop from scratch, even for a very large one-time order, no one will.
Of course, there is a second reason – the fact is that the people of the Middle Kingdom love the iPhone very much. Need to sell smartphones? Do as Apple!
Interestingly: the properties of the glass used by Xiaomi is the same as that of the iPhone.
However, even AMOLED can be different, so inside each of the smartphones – its own world. Much richer than appearance.
OLED and AMOLED: is there a difference?
OLED is a passive matrix based on organic light-emitting diodes. The technology is obsolete, used for monochrome displays.
AMOLED is an active matrix based on organic light-emitting diodes. The modern version is used in almost all smartphones.
Super AMOLED – also that AMOLED, but without an air gap between the touchscreen and a layer of LEDs. The prefix “Super” is the same as the abbreviation OGS for LCD displays .
Recall that the iPhone X is equipped with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED-display with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels with a maximum brightness of 625 nits .
The Xiaomi Mi 8 also has a Super AMOLED with a diagonal of 6.21 inches and a resolution of 2248×1080 and a brightness of 600 nits .
Pixels per inch of the “Chinese” is slightly smaller, but not so much that it was noticeable. The same can be said about brightness. All within the margin of error .
Let’s see closer. Do you see the difference? Yes, perhaps it is. Different wallpapers, different distance to the lens …
On the color reproduction it’s almost clones, but with the naked eye, the iPhone X ‘s superiority in contrast is felt . It’s like Mi8 quite a bit of it is not twisted. Another option is that X just has a higher color saturation.
But the difference is visible only with a very detailed comparison, and it is simply impossible to transmit the photos.
Monobrow as a means to make life better
On the contrast of the screens of the two competitors, speaking at first glance is almost useless: for all OLED displays, it tends to infinity , because the black color is obtained when the LED is turned off. Absolutely black.
But if you look closely, against the backdrop of the “eyebrow” Xiaomi Mi 8, its screen appears gray . The iPhone X has no effect. So Xiaomi’s screen is worse?
Of course, the color of the switched off matrix can not be changed , because the basis is one, and the switched off LED alone should not have shades.
But the oleophobic coating in smartphones is different. Works equally well, prints on the screen do not remain. But on Mi 8, the fat-repellent layer is noticeable , and the “X” does not.
Okay. Where is there without discussing cutouts?
About Face ID in the iPhone X wrote more than once, you already know everything.
About Xiaomi Mi 8 recall: the front camera is complemented by the infrared, with which the smartphone takes photos even in total darkness .
The Xiaomi camera does not recognize the face as a 3D object, simply by scanning features in the same plane. Therefore, yes, it can be deceived by a photograph of good quality.
But one can not be taken away: Mi 8 is banally unlocked faster than the iPhone X. While the latter “twists” the animation of the Face ID lock, “xiaomi” has long since opened the desktop.
At whom the palette is more abrupt? They say that the iPhone X is the best …
For a long time Apple has been boasting about the color coverage of displays in iPhones. So, iPhone X received color coverage according to the standard DCI-P3.
DCI-P3 or DCI / P3 – the color space used in digital cinemas. It covers most of the spectrum of natural origin and a portion of the spectrum accessible to human sight. Compatible with the printing standards CIE 1931, Adobe RGB and sRGB.
And it’s kind of cool, cool and exclusive. But the display Xiaomi Mi 8 also has support for the standard DCI-P3 .
The colors on Mi 8 seem a little duller , yes. But here there is one chip. In the native operating system MIUI 9 on the basis of Android 8.1 Oreo you can adjust the color of the screen to your taste. Unlike the iPhone.
By adjusting the color temperature (shifting the basic tones), developers have moved away from the problem of “vyvvyglaznyh” shades peculiar to AMOLED. There are no them in Mi 8.
Anyway, the iPhone has an advantage in contrast and color rendering. But you do not expect another when there is a twofold difference between smartphones (!) In price.
Which display is easier to use?
The difference between the 5.8 inches of the iPhone X and the 6.21-inch Xiaomi Mi 8 is very noticeable. If the first is nominally an ordinary smartphone, then the second one can easily be called a “phabet”, and in Russian – a “shovel”.
Xiaomi Mi 8 more iPhone X and the width and length. Plus the form is different.
Apple’s smartphone is more like a “brick”, stylish and elegant. Xiaomi Mi 8 is rounded at the sides, but above and below is more or less rectangular. Given the larger body size, keeping Xiaomi in small hands becomes difficult .
It’s good that in Xiaomi you can remove the lower navigation keys of Android and use gestures, freeing up some more space on the screen for something more useful.
We as soon as we did not touch both smartphones and came to different opinions. Owners of small hands, such as Nikita, it is better to sit with the iPhone X and rejoice.
All the rest are normal size Xiaomi Mi 8 . The problems of white people, not otherwise!
Who won on the displays? Solve below
A little less or a little more? A little brighter or a little duller? A little closer to real colors or a little more enjoyable for users?
Even the operating system MIUI – it’s a bit not iOS. And Face ID just does not hold out. All these “little” – and there is a difference between the iPhone X and Xiaomi Mi 8 .
However, there is a moment: Xiaomi Mi 8 costs 30 thousand rubles, and the iPhone X is sold from 70 thousand rubles. The difference is twofold. With more or less similar characteristics.
So the question of the winner of the round is open. We decide for ourselves.
