The Assumption Church was an architectural monument of federal significance.
On the morning of August 10, a fire broke out in the Assumption Church on the shore of the Kondopoga bay of Onega Lake . The employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations who worked on the spot did not find the dead and injured inside the building. One of the firemen suffered, he was taken to the hospital.
By 10 o’clock in the morning the church burned almost completely. The bell tower collapsed, all the icons were burnt.
The Assumption Church was considered the highest of all preserved wooden churches in Karelia, its construction was completed in 1774.
