American actor with Russian citizenship Stephen Sigal became a special representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on issues of Russian-American humanitarian ties. The appointment was reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Segal will not receive a salary in his new position. The Russian Foreign Ministry compared the duties of the actor to the functions of the UN Goodwill Ambassadors.

The task [of Stephen Sigal] is to promote the further development of Russian-American relations in the humanitarian sphere, including interaction in the sphere of culture, art, public and youth exchanges, and so on.

Vladimir Putin gave Stephen Sigal Russian citizenship in November 2016. The American actor “for a long time” sought this, is known for his “warm feelings” for Russia and is “a fairly well-known actor”, explained the reasons for accepting the citizenship of the Kremlin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov.
