A public Google search does not work in the country since 2010.
Google is working on a project called Dragonfly – this is an internal search engine for China with built-in censorship. According to The Intercept, the development of the search engine for Android continues from the spring of 2017. A regular Google search has been blocked in the country since 2010.
Sources said that the search engine will automatically remove from the search issue requests blocked by the “Great Chinese Firewall” (China’s Great Firewall). The service will comply with the laws of China, including Facebook and Twitter bans, as well as opposition sites.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, now Google is waiting for the approval of Chinese officials and plans to launch the project within a year. In addition to the censored results in the search, blank pages will be displayed on queries that are completely banned in China.
