Qualcomm has introduced mmWave radio modules, as well as radio modules supporting frequencies up to 6 GHz, thanks to which smartphones with support for 5G can be released in the first half of 2019. The manufacturer solved problems with interference that did not allow earlier to ensure the uninterrupted operation of radio modules at long distances.
As noted by Qualcomm, the theoretical limit of data transfer speed in 5G networks is 5 Gbit / s, in real terms on smartphones it will be 1.4 Gbit / s.
The modules operate in conjunction with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and support up to 800 MHz bandwidth in the 26.5-29.5 GHz (n257), 27.5-28.35 GHz (n261), and 37-40 GHz ( n260), according to Qualcomm’s website. It is noted that mmWave is the best solution for densely populated regions with a large number of subscriber devices.
