According to Mediascope, the game with Croatia took third place in the 20-year rating of the most watched sports broadcasts. She lost only to the Russia-Spain semi-final at the 2008 European Championships (25% of the population) and the Russia-Japan group match at the 2002 World Cup (21% of the population).
For comparison, the New Year broadcast of Vladimir Putin in 2018 looked at the First Channel 15.1% of Russians, and another 12.5% - on “Russia-1.”
The authors of the study noted that 22% of the respondents watched the match through computers, smart phones and other devices. At the same time, 73% of the spectators watched the quarterfinals at home, 13% – at a party or in the country, and only 5% – in bars.
The quarterfinal match between the national teams of Russia and Croatia was held on July 7 at the stadium “Fisht” in Sochi. The game, which became the biggest success of Russian footballers in the world championships, ended with a penalty shootout, in which 4: 3 Croatian footballers defeated.
