As a souvenir.
Fans during the World Cup 2018 took out of the free trains as a “souvenir” property of about one million rubles. This was reported to RIA Novosti by Pavel Burtsev, head of the business unit management department, Passenger Transport, Railways.
According to Burtsev, the fans mostly took blankets, coasters and bed sheets. He noted that such “cases” also occur in “everyday life”.
Even our sheets we watched on TV, on which the posters were made. It is in those trains where we carried out free transportation. […]
In many respects, let’s say, for clothes that were given free of charge in the framework of free transportation and were taken, we perceived this as a kind of mentality that people believe that this, if issued as part of the trip, it belongs to them. We did not proceed from any other considerations.
The Football World Cup in Russia was held from June 14 to July 15. The games took place in Moscow, Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg and Sochi.
