Russia plans to conduct flight tests of prototypes of the advanced cruise missile “Burevestnik” with a nuclear power plant and unlimited range of flight. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The Defense Ministry told that the unobtrusive cruise missile is invulnerable to all existing and prospective systems for both missile defense and air defense.
The ministry stressed that “at present the creation of a cruise missile of unlimited range is carried out in a planned manner”.
As Izvestia recalls , the decision to develop the Burevestnik was made in December 2001, after the US withdrew from the 1972 ABM Treaty, and as a response to the creation of a global missile defense system by the Americans.
