United Church of Australia will allow same-sex couples to get married in their churches

The new marriage policy states that “marriage is a gift given by God to people for the well-being of the whole human family”.

This week, the United Church of Australia at the National Assembly held a vote in which same-sex couples were told “yes.” The new marriage policy states that “marriage is a gift given by God to people for the well-being of the whole human family”.

For Christians, marriage is the voluntary consent of two people, expressed publicly and before God, to be together until the end of their days. In marriage, the two seek to support and enrich each other through love and fellowship to experience the fruitfulness of the family, to contribute to the well-being of society and to strengthen the mission of the church. By giving themselves to each other in love, the two reflect the love of Christ for their church. In marriage, they are called to live together by faith and truth, to love one another with respect and tenderness.

Statement by the United Church of Australia

The United Church of Australia ranks third in terms of prevalence after the Catholic and Anglican Churches, it has over 2,500 parishes.
