In spring, OnePlus introduced the flagship smartphone OnePlus 6, able to compete for the title of national favorite – a productive device will cost less than many famous competitors, although it will not be very affordable. The manufacturer remains true to itself, not being sprayed on a lot of models and giving all attention to a couple of devices a year. As a result, it can rightly be called a “company of one flagship”, which in the past was Apple.
Probably, the strategy justifies itself, as OnePlus does not intend to change its approach to business. The new smartphone does not shine with design – it’s simple, familiar in everything and little different from many others.

- Conclusions and assessment
The flagship OnePlus 6 is presented in three versions: with a black matte body and with glossy glass white and black. The first one, with frosted glass, is the most practical, but also the “usual” appearance. The material reluctantly collects prints, and due to a special coating (more and more mobile vendors abandon the bare metal) to the touch is like plastic. Or on a metal with a coating – there was confusion.
The version with the glass glossy lid looks more impressive (glitters, reflects), but in the case of the black model, it is likely that prints will quickly reduce the degree of attractiveness of the device.
The design of the smartphone has changed a bit. For better or for worse, it’s not clear. Those who are accustomed to a certain placement of physical controls, will have to change their habits a little. But it is insignificant. Changes touched the three-position switch (“with sound”, “do not disturb”, “no sound”), which moved to the right sidewall, located above the power button. Previously, it was adjacent to a volume rocker on the left sidewall.
The dimensions of the OnePlus 6 are 155.7 × 75.4 × 7.8 mm, weight is 177 g. The power button is high enough. It would be more convenient if it was located just below – then you would not have to reach for the key to unlock the smartphone. The same goes for the volume button.
Another nuance is associated with the shape and size of the fingerprint scanner. From round in OnePlus 5T it became slightly elongated horizontally. It is located behind the double photo flash, above which, in turn, is placed a double vertical camera on a small pedestal. Because of large dimensions, the lower lens is difficult to slam during the fumbling of the scanner. Usually it works quickly, from the first time, but at some point starts to piss: asks to put a finger again and again, refusing to unlock the device. And then for a long time again functions without failures. Dirt, moisture, software, bad imprinted in the database? The pattern could not be detected.
It was more convenient to use the face scanner as a security system, leaving a fingerprint sensor for payments and authentication in various services. You do not have to reach it: we usually press the power button on the side, and the face scanner responds immediately, without delay. The obvious plus is that you do not have to place a smartphone directly in front of your face – the system works at different angles.
In the hand, the device feels weighty and large – the size of the display is 6.3 inches.
“The most productive smartphone in the world” – the so-called OnePlus 6. It is clear that you have to navigate the synthetic benchmarks. Yes, this is the case when the mobile phone is not in the top five, but in the first place. CHSV immediately increases in size, except that none but the owner of the smartphone, a huge number of “parrots” does not know.
The novelty, as it is easy to guess, was the most current Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip. Its clock frequency is up to 2.8 GHz, the size of the RAM is 8 GB for models with 128 and 256 GB of internal memory or 6 GB for a model with 64 GB. At our disposal was a smartphone with 8 GB of RAM. The device is running an operating system Android 8.1 Oreo with the proprietary shell Oxygen OS over. It is characterized by lightness, it differs little from the bare “android”.
Modern flagships are difficult to assess in terms of performance in everyday tasks. It is unlikely that in some application they will slow down, the difference is likely to be noticeable in poorly optimized games. And it’s not a fact.
OnePlus 6 is quite a gaming smartphone (even with a special software mode that limits the interfering factors during gaming sessions). However, something similar is demonstrated by the fresh flagships of competitors that have similar components.
The battery capacity is 3300 mAh. Earlier there were reports that the battery can be noticeably and without apparent reason to lose charge. The problem was associated with a bug in one of the versions of HydrogenOS. The device that was at our disposal had firmware 5.1.8, and there were no difficulties with the battery. The smartphone was loaded with benchmarks, games, video recording in 4K format, communication in instant messengers, calls and rare surfing on the Internet. “Suddenly” device lasted “standard” day – after 28 hours there was still 15% of the charge (not enough to ignore the outlet).
The resolution of the 6.3-inch (6.28 “, to be precise) of the AMOLED display is 1080 × 2280 pixels (the density of the pixels is about 402 ppi), the aspect ratio is 19: 9. This resolution positively affects the battery life and does not interfere with the perception of the picture. If you start to compare with smartphones with higher performance, the difference will be noticeable. When there is no standard, there will be no claims to quality and clarity.
At the top of the screen is the familiar “visor”. Small, takes less than a third of the width of the display. In it there is a front camera, a speaker and a necessary set of sensors. As in previous mobile phones OnePlus, the screen of the new flagship supports the DCI-P3 color space. Cool, but for the average user, the role does not play.
In the settings there is a “night mode” with the ability to specify the degree of its intensity, as well as “read mode” and “black and white” mode (displays the clock and notifications if you take the smartphone in hand).
Contrast, brightness – at the normal level, but in the sun the protective film, if you decide to leave it in place, turns the picture on the display into a barely perceptible ghost. The photos on the OnePlus 6 screen look juicy, like all the rest of the content. At strong angles of deviation, a “rainbow” appears on the entire surface of the display.
The vast majority of smartphones in any price category are not yet able to provide high-quality sound. Producers go to different tricks, software and hardware, “partner” with famous brands, but a truly “music” mobile phone has not yet appeared (or, you can say, they are less if you remember HTC).
The best solution today is to use the conversational speaker at the top as a “peep” in addition to the bass speaker. Such devices are not so many, and OnePlus 6 is also deprived of this “feature”. As a result – a lack of expression. Clean, clear, loud, but no more. In the “ears” (the benefit is a 3.5 mm jack) the picture changes, there is a set of presets for a limited number of brands of headphones or the ability to set “overall sound improvement.”
The model received a double camera in the layout of 16 + 20 Mp. The main module is assisted by OIS, the second one is dispensed with without an optical image stabilizer. The aperture of both cameras is f / 1.7. The 16 Mp module, in its turn, has a larger matrix and bigger pixels (1 / 2.6 “, 1.22μm and 1 / 2.8”, 1.0μm, respectively), which should positively affect the shooting in low light conditions.
Pictures can be estimated as average: the camera is clearly not the strong point of the smartphone, but it can not be called unsuccessful either. It is obvious that OnePlus grows in this respect wherever.
Conclusions and assessment
OnePlus 6 – a strong flagship, which is easy to plug into the belt of competitors, if not pay too much attention to the appearance. The version with matte body is more practical. Models with Gorilla Glass 5 look sleeker and more attractive, but you’ll have to put up with the need to regularly wipe the case (especially true for black gloss). Of course, the question arises of the price: it is palpable, but in comparison with the more eminent flagships it is still attractive.
