Since July 1, communication operators and Internet services are required to store user data and provide information to special services on request . This entire multibillion-dollar project is being conducted under the aegis of the fight against terrorism.
Starting today, cellular and other types of communication operators should store call records, SMS messages and user emails that:
- indicated when registering with the service a Russian passport and any Russian identity document
- are located on the territory of Russia
- indicated the telephone number issued by the Russian operator
- Registered or authorized through the Russian IP-address
But the information that operators and providers are required to store:
- voice information
- text messages
- other emails
In fact, each user will be stored an impressive dossier with all the calls, posts on the forums, transferred files and with a full history of correspondence.
Of the bodies that will have access to such information on request, there is a list of agencies: FSB, MIA, FSO, FSIN, SVR, customs.
From October 1, the providers will be required to store and the user’s Internet traffic within 30 days. The average shelf life varies from a month to six months.
Can you protect yourself from such a forced invasion of privacy? Very problematic. Messengers with encryption, protected browsers and the use of products and services not cooperating with Russian special services – all this only in theory guarantees anonymity.
