The Swedish government announced the end of the boycott of the 2018 World Cup after the team withdrew from the group. According to politicians, they will come to Russia to support their native team.

As Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström told, many officials want to go to the next match of the national team in order to cheer for the team. She noted that the authorities discussed the correctness of the visit to Russia with the British government, which also announced a boycott.

“It is important that we can come to Russia and support this magnificent Swedish team,” added Wahlström. A full list of officials who will fly to Russia has not yet been published. The boycott of World Cup 2018 was announced by the authorities of Great Britain, Poland, Iceland and Sweden. The reason for this decision was the poisoning of the former spy GRU Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the UK.

Team Sweden at the World Cup 2018 beat the team from Japan and Mexico, thanks to which withdrew from the group. Despite the fact that the players lost to the Germans (1: 2), the German team still remained outside the tournament. In the 1/8 finals, the Swedes will compete against the Swiss national team in St. Petersburg.
