This manufacturer only at the end of last year officially migrated from native Chinese shelves to Eastern European. In December 2017, the first V7 models appeared in Russian retail outlets from local federal networks. By the summer Vivo decided to consolidate its positions and thoroughly invested in marketing, becoming a sponsor of the World Cup in Russia.
In March, a new smartphone V9 was introduced, which will soon be on sale in Belarus at a price of 600 rubles. This is about 100 rubles more expensive than the V7 + model, which we recently watched, but for this money we get a more efficient processor (Snapdragon 450 vs. Snapdragon 626), a larger screen (6 inches vs. 6.3) and resolution (720p vs. 1080p ). In addition, the novelty has a kind of no double camera. Of course, we do not expect revelations from her, but nevertheless.
Appearance and practicality
In the dark-dark room V9 can be confused with the iPhone the X . However, like any modern smartphone in dark colors and with a “monobrow” on the front panel. Even in its promotional materials, the company used a background image of the lock screen like that of the iPhone X.
True, the similarity is only external. Already in the hand the device feels too light – only 150 grams due to the plastic rear panel. Someone will have this to taste, but subjectively, smartphones are heavier in the hands more pleasant.
Thanks to the “monobrovi” engineers Vivo managed to fit the 6.3-inch display in almost the same frame as the V7 +. Dimensions of our today’s hero – 154.8 × 75.1 × 7.9 mm, while the V7 + fit in a body with dimensions of 155.9 × 75.8 × 7.7 mm. Yes, V9 got a little fat, but dropped in width and length. Its screen, according to the manufacturer, covers 90% of the front panel.
On the back of the smartphone is the company logo. Two relief points in the lower part, apparently, should protect the case from accidental sliding on the table and the acquisition of new scratches. Above the logo is a fingerprint scanner, and in the upper left corner – a double camera. The module slightly protrudes, and around it in time “pylyuka” gathers. In general, the back of the device is quite a mark, and fingerprints have to be carefully wiped. However, in these prints there is a plus: on a black spattered case, scratches will be less noticeable.
On the right side of the device is a paired volume button and a screen lock key. On the left – a slot for two nano-SIM. It is long, with three compartments, so the choice between an additional SIM card and a memory card will not arise.
On the lower edge is a single speaker grille, a headphone jack and a microphone hole. There is also a micro-USB connector in the center, which is unusual to see in the device in 2018 release.
On the upper end, as, indeed, and nowhere else on the case, you will not find an additional microphone noise reduction.
Fingerprint and face scanner
As we already mentioned, there is a fingerprint scanner on the back of the smartphone. He is not very drowned in the body, and finding it is problematic. However, with a successful hit, the scanner operates quickly enough without causing any discomfort.
The face recognition scanner works even faster. It’s understandable, because for its work only the camera is used, and not any sophisticated sensor. That’s why with recognition in the dark the device can not cope. However, in the settings of this function there is a switch “Fill light of the screen”. When activated, the display will glow brighter if unlocked in the dark, highlighting the owner’s face. But a flashlight that shines in the eyes of not everyone will like it.
In the same menu, you can turn off quick recognition, thereby minimizing the possibility of hacking the device with a photo or video. Although in our case, SELFI from another smartphone never came up for the role of the real face of the owner.
Under normal conditions, the face scanner works quickly and without errors – whether you are wearing glasses or without them.
Smartphone V9 is equipped with IPS-display with a diagonal of 6.3 inches. The aspect ratio is 19: 9, the resolution is 2280 × 1080 pixels. Here you can not do without a comparison with the recently visited us on the test Xiaomi Mi8. The screen for a cheaper Vivo looks much better than a grainy picture of Samsung’s 6-inch AMOLED display. Well, you can not make HD-resolution in such a large screen.
To IPS-displays almost never there are claims. A slight color inverting and loss of contrast when looking at a smartphone at a strong angle are not critical. There will be more questions to software support. In the settings of the device, it was not possible to find the adjustment of any color profiles. But there is an automatic adjustment of the brightness of the screen. It works a little with a backlog, but for a device for such a budget is quite tolerable.
The main dual camera V9 is a 16Mp (f / 2.0) photomodule and an additional 5Mp module. They work in a bunch, and the manufacturer focuses on “AI Boke” – zamylivanie background software. If you’ve seen this in other smartphones, then Vivo technology will not be a revelation for you: the effect of bokeh is not at all ideal.
The camera behaves better than a single module in V7 +. Here, the clarity is higher, and the background is not so blurred, and the auto white balance is working correctly. At least he makes the photos warmer, not blue.
Of course, V9 does not cope with high-contrast compositions, it can not be avoided. But the camera, however, has the option of automatically turning on the HDR. The photo below is made with it.
Camera for selfi has a photomodule at 24 megapixels. Its internal software is sharpened by the aggressive improvement of your face, lighting and leveling the skin to the state of a rubber doll, as well as all sorts of stickers in augmented reality that are almost standard for any smartphone.
Productivity and autonomy
The device runs on a Snapdragon 626 chip – it’s an 8-core processor with a clock speed of 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 506 graphics processor. The device is equipped with 64 GB of internal and 4 GB of RAM.
When loading “heavy” pages with an abundance of pictures, the smartphone behaves quite neatly. Friezes, if they do, only at the time when the page is just loading. The speed of launching applications, as well as the operation of the interface, there are no complaints.
The notes concern only synthetic tests. For some reason, even with the fifth attempt, V9 could not complete the Antutu test, just stopping at a certain stage. The graphics in the game look nicer than in the case of a previous patient from the same price category: fewer ladders and a dashboard
The battery capacity is 3260 mAh. This is not the most voluminous battery, but it closes the working day completely, as well as the batteries of all modern smartphones. Of course, if you do not abuse games and pants in Instagram.
But there is a noticeable minus: users who are spoiled by fast charging will be frustrated by how slowly the battery is being charged. We did not make exact measurements, but subjectively this takes a couple of hours. You get used to good quickly. Well, it remains to wait for fast charging technologies to become the standard for low-cost smartphones.
