Apple has a second major supplier of OLED-matrix for the future iPhone. Bloomberg reports that the Cupertins have agreed with LG to supply several million displays – the size of the lot will be 2-4 million copies.
The figure is modest compared to the usual sales of the iPhone. Apparently, Samsung remains the main supplier of accessories for Apple smartphones. But it is reported that the Cupertins want more independence from the supply of their competitor.
By the way, it is the high cost of the OLED screen that explains the high cost of the iPhone X (from $ 999). Also, Bloomberg notes that sales of the flagship smartphone did not live up to Apple’s expectations. The emergence of a new supplier should impose competition on Samsung and reduce the cost of displays.
The presentation of the new iPhone will take place in early autumn. According to the leaks, Apple is preparing three smartphones: one with a diagonal of 5.8 inches, its Plus version with a 6.5 inch screen (both with OLED matrices) and an iPhone with a 6.1-inch LCD screen.
