Team Germany held the third match of the group stage of the World Cup 2018 – at the stadium in Kazan team lost to South Korea with a score of 0: 2. For the first time in history, since 1954, the Germans could not leave the group at the World Cup.
To exit the group, the Germans only needed victory, but they could not open the account. At the very end of the match, the South Koreans scored two goals in three minutes.
The loss of Germany continued a series of coincidences, when the world champions do not go to the playoffs. In 2014, the Germans won the World Cup in Brazil, beating Argentina.

- Italy: won the World Cup 2006, did not leave the group at the 2010 World Cup;
- Spain: won the 2010 World Cup, did not leave the group at the 2014 World Cup;
- Germany: won the 2014 World Cup, did not leave the group at the 2018 World Cup.
