MTV began to revive the cult shows and animated series from the 90’s and 2000’s

The first in line is “Daria”.

The American television channel MTV is launching the MTV Studios studio, which will manufacture continuations and spin-offs of the company’s classic franchises, as well as sales to other TV networks and streaming services. This was reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

According to the publication, MTV owns more than 200 titles with a 35-year history. The first of these will be cult teenage animated series – “Daria” and “Eon Flax”, as well as the reality show “Impossible is Possible” (the original name is “Made”) and “Real World”.

When asked about the restart of other cult series (like “Biwes and Butthead”, “Starfight to the Death” and “Lagoon Beach”), MTV president Chris McCarthy (Chris McCarthy) replied that the company is “not yet ready to announce them, but definitely not against [ this idea] ». He clarified that the company is really thinking about the return of some of the mentioned franchises.

The author of the restart of “Daria”, which will be called “Daria and Jody”, will be screenwriter Grace Edwards (Grace Edwards). Previously, she was also the editor of the sitcom script “Unbending Kimmy Schmidt” (Netflix) and assistant scriptwriter of the sketch series “Inside Amy Schumer” (Comedy Central).

The original show “Daria” was a spin-off of “Biwes and Butthead” and was aired from 1997 to 2002. The project was among the 50 best animated television series in the history of television and turned into one of the most successful franchises of MTV. Its IMBD score was 8.1 out of 10
