They blame this “Yandex”, but the service does not plan to filter the issue.
Attendance of pirated sites fell by about 30% in October 2017, after the law on blocking “mirrors” came into force, but in February 2018 the decline stopped. This was reported by “Kommersant” referring to the study of the association “Internet video” (it unites the largest Russian online theaters “.Infographics “Kommersant”
The general director of the association “Internet video” Alexei Byrdin argues that online cinemas blame this “Yandex”. According to him, even after the massive blocking of “mirrors” legal websites could not rise in the search engine, because instead of blocked pages, new pirate sites appeared.
Birdin said that users spend a lot of time on pirated sites, so the search engine of “Yandex” raises them higher than legal ones, which the user can leave quickly, not wanting to pay. He added that in Google legal sites are raised in the search results above.
In the press service of “Yandex” reported that the search engine works in full compliance with the law. The company noted that they are interested in “the earliest creation of an ecosystem of viewing a legal video on the Internet.”
As a search engine, Yandex works in full compliance with the current legislation in all countries of presence. In Russia, rights holders have unprecedented legal opportunities to block websites with illegal content and their mirrors.
If you impose on the Russian search engines additional responsibilities for filtering search results, this can only lead to abuse by rightholders and unfair competition.
The law on blocking “mirrors” of pirated sites without resorting to court came into force on October 1, 2017. The blocking may be initiated by state bodies or rightholders.
