Surveillance of girlfriend calls and “fine” for viewing porn: what sentences the courts have pronounced?

A verdict was announced to three non-working citizens of the Russian Federation who used an old but proven scheme on the Internet. They used malicious software and blocked the users’ computers that watched “adult” content. Details are reported by the Telegram-channel of the Investigative Committee.

A pop-up message said that the user had to pay a fine. The notification appeared allegedly on behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. Of course, the Ministry of the Interior, such fines, even in this form, does not appoint.

Nevertheless, more than 900 people suffered from the actions of the attackers. Recently, the investigation of the case was completed, and the court sentenced a prison sentence of 7 to 8 years.

Also it became known about another case related to high technologies. The Office of the Investigative Committee for the Vitebsk region during the investigation found that the guy secretly set a password for the “Internet Assistant” system on his girl’s phone through a USSD-request. This gave him access to the control of messages and calls made by a friend.

In 2015-2016, investigators established more than 540 episodes of illegal activity. The young man was charged under part 2 of Art. 349 (“Unauthorized access to computer information”) and art. 352 (“Illegal acquisition of computer information”) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. The court ordered a fine of 100 basic units for all crimes.
