The first channel, during the opening of the World Cup, showed a video with geographical confusion: instead of the Moscow embassy of Great Britain on the Smolenskaya embankment there was a Saransk cathedral of St. Theodore Ushakov. A stele to the Liberators of Rostov appeared on the right of it above the buildings (the fragment begins at 3:29).

The embassy building was built on a plot of 0.92 hectares, which was exchanged in the 1960s for two plots in London. The modern embassy complex began to be built in 1997.

On March 14, British Prime Minister Teresa May said that officials and members of the royal family would not come to the World Cup in Russia. This is due to the fact that the authorities see the “Russian trace” in the case of poisoning the former GRU employee Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia.

Updated : the creator of the clip Sergei Ilyin-Kozlovsky explained that in the video for the opening of the World Cup was portrayed not Moscow, but “fantasy space”, where they presented photo collages with elements of all 11 cities in which the tournament matches will be played.

Strictly speaking, the video shows not Moscow, but a collective image of all 11 cities that host the World Cup. This is a fantasy space, and Moscow is its base as the capital of the Championship. In this “base Moscow” we have integrated the key objects of the other ten cities in which the matches of mundialya will be held.
