RBC: The government has reduced the gap between the female and male retirement age due to “gender equality”

Previously, it was five years, and the new norm – two years.

The difference in the retirement age between the sexes should be reduced because of the “need to ensure gender equality”, as well as “changing the status of women in society” and increasing pensions. This is stated in an explanatory note to the bill on raising the retirement age, the extract of which was published by the publication of RBC.

According to the current legislation, men retire at age 60 and women at 55. The reform proposed by the Russian government suggests that by 2032 the retirement age should increase to 65 for men and 63 for women.
