The International Football Federation (FIFA) began to study the reasons for the absence of spectators for the World Cup match between the national teams of Egypt and Uruguay. This was reported by TASS and The Daily Telegraph in the organization.
According to the organization, the official attendance of the match Egypt – Uruguay was 27 015 spectators, but 32 278 tickets were distributed. The official capacity of the Yekaterinburg-Arena is 33,061 spectators.
The fact that the number of spectators differs from the number of distributed tickets can depend on many factors (including the absence of spectators on match day), which are currently being studied by FIFA.
The match between Uruguay and Egypt was June 15, the Uruguayan team won with a score of 1: 0. As noted by the edition Sports.ru, the stands of “Ekaterinburg-Arena” during the match were “half empty”. The general director of the organizing committee “Russia-2018” Alexei Sorokin in a conversation with “Sport-Express” suggested that “somebody’s weather scared or something.” According to Sports.ru, there may be several reasons for the appearance of empty seats:
- The start time of the match is 17:00 local time on a weekday;
- Places reserved for partners and sponsors of FIFA – they did not sell tickets;
- Ticket prices – mostly places 1 and 2 were free, Sports.ru says. Their cost is 12.6 and 9.9 thousand rubles.
