June 13, the famous scientist, oncologist, director of the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, doctor of medical sciences, professor Zalutskiy Joseph Victorovich died on the 68th year of his life. The press service of the Academy of Sciences informed. Iosif Viktorovich left after a serious long illness.
All life of Joseph Victorovich was connected with medicine. In 1978 he graduated from the medical institute in Minsk and began working at the Belarusian Scientific Research Institute of Oncology and Medical Radiology, which since 2007 was renamed the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology and Medical Radiology. By 2000, Iosif Viktorovich headed this institute. At the same time, the oncologist worked at the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, in 2010 became Director of the Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
As a scientist Zalutsky gained fame due to his research in the field of oncology. He developed and introduced methods of reconstructive and plastic surgery in the combined and complex treatment of malignant tumors. He was the first in the CIS countries to conduct fundamental research that allowed to substantiate the principle possibility of using microsurgical technologies in oncology.
In practice, he carried out the idea of performing organ-preserving radical operations in patients with musculoskeletal, soft tissue, head and neck tumors. Due to this, it became possible to return patients with secondary limfedemas of the upper extremities after combined and complex treatment of breast cancer, pharyngostomy in tumors of the larynx, and close defects with extensive radiation ulcers.
Zalutsky for his professional career became the author of 445 scientific and scientific-methodical works. Under his leadership, 5 doctoral and 16 candidate dissertations were defended, 2 candidate dissertations in the specialty “Oncology” were prepared for defense.
Farewell to Iosif Zalutsky will be held June 15 at 11:00 in the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education at Minsk, ul. Petrusya Brovka, 3, building 3. The civil funeral service will begin at 12:00.
