Media: Apple in iOS 12 will focus on improving performance, not on new features

Serious innovation in the near future should not wait.

Apple has not yet completed the update cycle of iOS 11, but has already started serious work on the next version of the mobile system. According to thepublication of Axios, the next major update of iOS will be aimed at increasing the reliability and performance of the system, rather than on the new loud functions.

Axios’ interlocutors note that this decision was taken by Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software development. It is reported that he announced to the engineers about new plans in early January.

The recycled screen “home”, updating of standard applications, such as “Mail” and improved shooting capabilities, was postponed to 2019. However, iOS 12 will still add new opportunities for health and augmented reality.

According to Bloomberg, in iOS 12, Apple also plans to combine applications for macOS and iOS, making them cross-platform.

As noted by The Verge, this approach for Apple is not new: a similar cycle has been present for a long time in the macOS. The company alternated updates, releasing large patches every two years, and between them did work on the bugs and increased the stability of the systems.

A new version of the system should be submitted to WWDC 2018 in June.
