The number of smokers in France decreased by 1 million per year

According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Health of France, the number of smokers decreased by 1 million per year during the year.

The study also showed that smoking among teenagers and low-income people has become less.

The reasons were: transitions to substitutes (wakes), neutral packaging (without box branding), increase of excise taxes and “month without smoking” actions, carried out on a national scale.

According to the study, 26.9% of the population smoked in 2017, in contrast to 29.4% a year earlier. Thus, the number of smokers in France decreased from 13.2 to 12.2 million citizens of the Republic.

The Minister particularly welcomed the citizens who quit smoking, who have low income.

Throughout the world, due to smoking, 1 in 10 people die, mainly in China, India, the US and Russia.

Researchers note that smoking spreads to less prosperous countries, and developed began to refuse to smoke.
