In the Tretyakov Gallery, a man damaged the picture, the Russian Interior Ministry reported . As RIA Novosti learned , it is about Ilya Repin’s work “Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan November 16, 1581”, also known as “Ivan the Terrible Kills His Son”

According to police, on May 25 at about 9 pm Moscow time, the museum visitor took a metal fence post, broke the picture of the painting and damaged the canvas. The gallery was called to the police, who detained the suspect on the spot. Whether he resisted detention and what motives he had – it is not known.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs instituted criminal proceedings under part 1 of Article 243 of the Criminal Code (“Destruction or damage to objects of cultural heritage”). The measure of restraint to a man has not yet been elected.

Ilya Repin created the picture in 1883-1885. She suffered from vandalism during the life of the artist: in 1913 the painter Abram Balashov with “mental illness” thrice struck cuts painting knife.
