Trump announced the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

Thus, he fulfilled the law that the US Congress adopted back in 1995 and which was ignored by Clinton, Bush and Obama.

President of the United States Donald Trump said that his country officially recognized Jerusalem, “founded by Jews in ancient times”, as the capital of the Jewish state of Israel. He noted that this city should become a place where Jews can freely pray on the Temple Mount, Muslims from Al-Aqsa.

Today we finally recognize the obvious: that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. This is neither much nor little, but only a recognition of reality. And also – the right thing to do.

According to Trump, the decree he signed was adopted in the interests of the United States and for the establishment of peace between Israel and Palestine. He added that Israel is a sovereign state and “one of the most successful democracies in the world”, which itself can choose its capital.

Trump also said that he ordered the State Department to begin work on moving the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He called this decision “tribute to the world” and added that the US will continue to support a bilateral solution to the problem in Palestine.

We want [to see] an agreement that would perfectly suit the Israelis and Palestinians. We do not occupy any final position on the status of [Jerusalem], including any boundaries of Israeli and Jewish sovereignty or resolutions on the disputed borders. These questions are for the parties involved in the process.

At the end of his address, the President of the United States appealed to the spiritual and political leaders of Israel and Palestine to support the intentions of the United States to “strive for lasting peace” in the Middle East region.
