In gratitude for the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Six-time Israeli champion in football “Beitar” from Jerusalem announced a change of name in honor of the US president. According to the decision of the leadership, from the new season the club will be called “Beitar Trump Jerusalem”.
According to the press service of Beitar, the decision to rename was taken after the recognition of Donald Tramp of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. On May 14, the US Embassy, which used to be in Tel Aviv, will open there. The team noted that they are happy to thank the US president “for his love and support.”
In December 2017, Trump announced his decision, which caused a wave of outrage among Arab countries that consider Jerusalem an occupied territory. Nevertheless, the opening of the diplomatic mission will still take place, and the name of the president will be called a street near the US Embassy in Israel.
