Facebook plans to launch its own crypto currency, which users can pay off within the platform. This was reported by the publication Cheddar referring to sources familiar with the plans of social networks.

The details of the system are still unknown. According to the interlocutors of the publication, the Crypto currency will allow billions of Facebook users to make electronic payments. One source noted that the company’s management is “very serious”.

Cheddar noted that Facebook’s plans to implement its own crypto currency can take “years”. The company does not intend to conduct ICO in order to receive financing.

According to the media, in an internal letter to his employees, Mark Zuckerberg did not explain what specifically the new department will do. A representative of the social network told Cheddar that “Facebook, like many other companies, is investigating the strength of the detachment,” but did not disclose details.

In 2009, Facebook has already experimented with virtual currency. The company issued Facebook-loans, which could be used to purchase virtual trivia in popular games. But the function did not catch on and after two years it was disabled.
