Contestant from Russia Yulia Samoilova did not make it to the final of Eurovision-2018 in Portugal. The second semi-final with her participation was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the music contest.
To qualify for the finals, Samoilova needed to take a place in 10-ke artists according to the results of the vote of the audience and the professional jury. In the final part were, including the Ukrainian Melovin with the song ” Under the Ladder “, produced by Philip Kirkorov, a group from Moldova and Australia, which joined the contest in 2014.
Thus, Russia did not enter the final of “Eurovision” for the first time since 2004 – the moment of introduction of semifinals. Samoylova performed with the song I Will not Break, which was written by a team from Leonid Gutkin (songwriter Dina Garipova and Polina Gagarina) and two authors from Israel – Natta Nimrodi and Arie Burshtein.
The first channel and VGTRK in 2017, Samoilov chose to represent Russia at the contest in Portugal. This decision was followed by the refusal of the Security Service of Ukraine to let the Russian actress into the country because of violation of local laws – she was accused of entering Russia from the territory of the Crimea. As a result, Eurovision-2017 passed without Russian artists.
