Minister of Communications and Informatization of Belarus Sergei Popkov today holds a press conference dedicated to the exhibition TIBO-2018, which will start next week. This year more than 100 companies from 15 countries of the world will take part in it. Traditionally, fixed and mobile operators will deploy their stands at the exhibition. This year the central exposition at TIBO-2018 will be occupied by the stand “IT-country Belarus”.
The central stand will house the development of companies – residents of the High Technology Park, including Kino-mo, Game Stream, MapData, Synesis and others.
As Sergey Popkov said, at present 355 licenses in the field of communication issued by the Ministry of Communications and Informatization operate in the republic, 338 of them are telecommunication operators.
The total number of mobile cellular telecommunications subscribers totals 11.4 million. Over 10.4 million subscribers in the country use broadband access to the network.
As of April 1, 2018, the number of subscribers to broadband stationary access to the Internet amounted to 3 million 190 thousand subscribers (there were 33.2 fixed line broadband subscribers and 75.8 subscribers of wireless broadband access per 100 residents of the country). According to an independent assessment, we occupy the 21st place in terms of the number of broadband subscribers.
The width of the external channel is now 1430 Gbit / s.
The coverage of the LTE network in Belarus is 74.5%. According to BelGIE, this type of communication is available in 455 localities.
According to the minister, the number of IPTV subscribers is increasing. So, as of April 1, 2018, their total number was 1.85 million. Before November 1, 2018, it is planned to translate the compulsory publicly available package of TV programs into HD format.
Work is under way on 5G, however this technology is oriented more to the business, rather than to the end users of mobile communication. Belarus remains the leader in the development of ICT among the CIS countries.
In the framework of the subprogram, which implies a digital transformation of activities, optimization of business processes is planned in Belarus. Today, the subprogram includes 48 events in various fields. Among the sectoral projects: e-school, e-health, a national monitoring system for commodity-transport flows, the creation of a register of administrative procedures for legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, and others.
Answering journalists’ questions, the minister commented on the situation on the possible sale of the state stake of the life 🙂 operator. According to Sergei Popkov, an investor can be one who is successful in his business and is able to bring new technologies to the country. Sergei Popkov assured that in the near future there will be more specific information on this matter. The issue of 4G in velcom network was also indirectly raised. There is no data on any progress in this direction.
