The Korean edition of Business Korea, citing its own sources, reports that one of the models of this year’s iPhone smartphones can get a display with MLCD + technology. Similar screens are installed on the flagship smartphones LG G7 ThinQ. The AppleInsider resource claims that the rumor is controversial, and calls Business Korea a not very trusted “informant.”
The MLCD + technology is distinguished by the presence of the fourth “white” subpixel (in addition to red, green and blue), which provides a higher brightness. In addition, this matrix fully supports the color space DCI-P3, as well as OLED-screens of expensive iPhone. The cost of MLCD + is lower.
The report Business Korea refers to the 6.1-inch version of the iPhone in 2018, which will be a cheap alternative to 5.8 and 6.5-inch OLED-devices.
