Iranian President says the government is not involved in blocking Telegram

According to him, the blocking of the messenger is a “customized” judicial decision.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the government of the republic is not involved in blocking Telegram on the territory of the state. He wrote about this in the instagram.

According to Rouhani, the blocking of the messenger is a “customary resolution” of the judiciary, and the executive has not taken such a decision. The President stressed that the 11th and 12th Iranian government “do everything” to ensure the cybersecurity of citizens.

If at the highest level a decision was made to restrict or block communication between people, then the real masters of the country – the people – should know about this.

Until now, the government has not blocked any social network or messenger, and will not do it.

On April 30, the Iranian court ruled to ban the use of Telegram in the country. The decision was made on the basis of the requirements of the special services, which “struggle with criminal activity” in the messenger, and also because of the “numerous complaints” of the Iranians.
