On Sakharov Avenue at 14:00, a rally was organized, organized by the Libertarian Party and coordinated with the Moscow mayor’s office. The co-organizers of the event were the Pirate Party of Russia and the Russian Free Internet Society. According to the police , the meeting was attended by 7,500 people, and the volunteer project “White Counter”, following the number of people who passed through the police, counted more than 12,300 participants.

Before the entrance to Sakharov Prospekt, an obstacle was built from the Kamaz, after which people were allowed to pass through the frame where the staff of Rosgvardia asked endlessly: “Quick, rather, do not delay.” From the stage came the songs of the group “Civil Defense”. Periodically singing “Kill the State”, the rally participants made paper airplanes, sitting here and there on the asphalt. By the middle of the third of the columns the leader greeted: “Welcome! Be free! Thank you for coming to support our country! ”

The meeting began with the speech of the general director of the company Diphost Philip Kulin (Unstoppable Phil). Roskomnadzor blocked almost 18 million addresses – Kulin published the schedule of the lock on his website : “When it really touched our freedoms, people forgot that they eat at their corners, and went to a rally in support of free Internet.” Kulin said that Roskomnadzor should talk with business, and with telecom operators, and with public organizations, and not arrange “wedding”, ostentatious meetings.

After the scene came a member of the Libertarian Party Grigory Bazhenov: “Freedom is our main value, we are free! The separation of powers in Russia has died! All branches of power are all heads of one monster. (On these words in the crowd it sounded: “Down with the king!”) This monster is trying to encroach on the fourth power – on freedom of speech, on the freedom of the media, on the freedom of our thought. We, the remnants of the forces of Rohan and Gondor, stand at the gate of Mordor and give Frodo the opportunity to destroy the Ring of Omnipotence. ” Bazhenov finished the slogan “Freedom of speech be!”, Which was picked up by the audience and continued to chant.

Throughout the action, participants shouted: “We are and we exist”, “Russia will be free”, “Supervision is not, freedom is yes”, “We are not silent”. At the rally, rapper Loqiemean, editor-in-chief of MediaZony Sergey Smirnov, mathematician Dmitry Bogatov and his wife Tatyana Fedorova, head of Roskomsvoboda public organization Artem Kozlyuk, presenter of YouTube channel Kaktus Ruslan Shaveddinov, as well as politician Alexei Navalny. The latter came out to the noise of the crowd with the words: “Thank you, Pasha Durov, that he called this resistance!”

Navalny opposed the idea that “some guys with huge fat faces” want to be able to read personal correspondence of citizens. “In their prison!” – shouted in the crowd, but the politician himself (with a general laugh) said that he can not repeat this call from the stage. At the end of his speech, Navalny said that police officers approached him with the demand not to agitate people to come to the rally on May 5, which is supposed to be held on Tverskaya Street at 14:00. He fulfilled this demand, but the assembled people began to chant “He is not Dimon to you”.

All speakers for the rallies called for fighting for freedom of speech and for civil rights. “Today we came out not just for the Internet,” said member of the Libertarian Party Mikhail Svetov: “Today we went for civil liberties, from which we had nothing left. We are patriots, we want Russia better. And without the Internet, nothing will happen. ” After the end of the rally Pavel Durov wrote in your Telegram-channel “Thank you!”

Participants for some time continued to launch airplanes, gathered in groups. “Do you know why we still live beautifully?” – an elderly participant of the action asked the schoolchildren: “Because you are here, you are our hope!”
