A young artist from Nigeria inspires web users with his paintings

Silas Onokha, a 24-year-old artist from the city of Makurdi in Nigeria, has repeatedly admired users of social networks with his incredible works, executed in the style of realism. Many of them are so realistic that at first glance they are difficult to distinguish from photographs.

Through his hometown passes the river Benue, and her landscapes – the main component of recent paintings. Basically, the artist depicts on them the everyday life of the inhabitants of his settlement, striving to convey the beauty of these places as accurately as possible.

On Silas’s works, one can note an incredible closeness to the texture and natural elements. Most of the paintings of the young artist are made with oil on canvas.

My work is based on experience from life, on real events, and their main message is to express hope. We live in a time when many do not care what happens around them. I want to show this.

Silas states that he is inspired by his current surroundings, and especially the creativity of other artists surrounding him. For example, work under the tag on the web #wearenigeriancreatives , under which young people from Abuja, Lagos and other cities share their work.

Many of the works under the tag #wearenigeriancreatives have a deep subtext, but they all enchant with their picturesqueness, which artists and realists and artists from Nigeria could so well depict.

Silas also notes that the way he represents water in his works is a metaphor for what he sees as a refreshing flow of life that can be embodied in the faces of children.
