In 1911, the first Australian expedition headed by geologist Douglas Mawson set out for Antarctica. Scientists have explored the unexplored parts of the continent in order to make new maps. They managed to obtain a large amount of scientific information in the field of biology, geology, glaciology and meteorology. The result of their labors was recorded in 22 volumes.
