Vegetarian producers in France will no longer be able to use meat terms in the names of their products.
In the opinion of most French deputies, the use of such words in the names of products that do not contain meat, misleads consumers. Under the ban were words that directly indicate the animal origin of food. For example, steak, sausage or fillets.
Violators of the ban are waiting for a fine of 300 thousand euros.
The ban was initiated by MP Jean-Baptiste Moreau. His main argument was last year’s ban of the European Court of Justice calling soy and tofu products milk and butter.
