Yesterday in Moscow ASUS presented a new line of smartphones Zenfone. So far, the model range consists of three devices, and in early summer, they will be added to the flagship – Zenfone 5Z. ASUS hopes that the novelties will be able to strengthen their positions on the Russian (and at the same time the Belarusian) market – extremely important for the company, as they said at the event.
First of all we studied ASUS Zenfone 5. It is curious that outwardly from the top Zenfone 5Z it does not differ – only the stuffing is different. If the flagship gets Snapdragon 845, then Zenfone 5 is equipped with Snapdragon 636. The processor, of course, loses to the top one, but the main thing is that it supports all smart chips as the older version. On them, ASUS made a special accent: they say, we have reached the stage when the smartphone is learning from its user.
For example, Zenfone 5 avoids long-term presence of a smartphone on 100% charge, being connected to a socket. Usually this happens when the user puts the device on night charging: smartphones make up energy from zero to hundreds of hours for one and a half or two, and the rest of the night the battery continues to remain at 100%. In this case, says ASUS, the battery wears out more quickly.
What the company offers: the smartphone is charged up to 80%, and when the alarm goes off for two hours, the energy is slowly supplied to the battery – and by the time of your ascent the smartphone will be fully charged.
Another function is useful for those who are tired of constantly adjusting the volume for incoming calls and messages. Zenfone 5 understands when the situation is calm (for example, at home), and when the noise and din (on the street or when the apartment is worn by children). The smartphone, orienting itself to the current conditions, sets the optimal volume.
Also, under the situation, a 6.2-inch display (1080 × 2246 pixels) with monobloc is adjusted. ASUS realized something like the TrueTone technology from the latest iPad Pro. The smartphone can adjust the color palette for a more natural color rendering.
The screen has an interesting aspect ratio – 19: 9. If the developers of third-party applications do not optimize their programs under the ledge, the ratio turns into the more familiar 18: 9, painting the “ears” along the edges of the monobrovi in black. It’s the same when watching a video.
Most of all in ASUS talked about the camera. Zenfone 5 received sixteen presets. Especially in the company they are proud to have taught the smartphone to distinguish a cat from a dog – they are dedicated to different shooting modes. The device will periodically ask you which filters and photo settings you like best. Zenfone 5 will remember the choice, and thus the pictures will be more personalized.
The main camera Zenfone 5 is double. Sony sensors are used: one for 12 Mp (f / 1.8), the other for 8 Mp (wide-angle, f / 2.0). There is stabilization in four axes and phase autofocus – it works in 0,03 seconds. Video recording is available in 4K.
The smartphone runs on the eight-core Snapdragon 636. The operating memory is 4 GB, the graphics are processed by Adreno 509. The battery capacity is 3300 mAh.
Of the three devices presented, most of the above-described smart functions are only available from Zenfone 5. On the one hand, soulless marketing, on the other hand, the company explained that chips can only be hung on next generation processors, Snapdragon 845 and 636.
ASUS Zenfone 5 Lite – the smartphone is a bit simpler. Processor Snapdragon 630, 3 GB RAM, the screen is six-inch, but the resolution is also FHD +. But the camera he has 4 – two front and back. In the company they say that this is a real “salfifon”.
The most accessible device from the presented – Zenfone 5 Max. It is positioned as a device for travelers: it is impossible to kill a battery, they say. For the sake of reducing power consumption (and cost), they even left a 5.5-inch screen with an HD-matrix – only 720p. The battery is 4000 mAh, and the smartphone can act as a power bank and power other devices. They promise about 4 days of work with moderate use.
All this sounds interesting, but there is one problem: the previous generation, Zenfone 4, was shown only last fall. And after about six months it turns out that there are already smartphones ASUS better. The situation was clarified by the vice-president of the company Eric Chen in a conversation with.
– The presentation of Zenfone 4 was only six months ago. Why such a small life cycle?
– Yes, you are right: less than half a year has passed since the premiere of Zenfone 4. The reason is simple: we are first to give users new technologies as soon as they become available.
– Do not you think that this upset the owners of Zenfone 4? Bought a new smartphone, it takes 6 months – and it is no longer the current generation?
– I believe that Zenfone 4 is still an excellent smartphone. Just a new technology has come, and there are people who want it. We must give this opportunity.
– Monobroke has become the most popular design element in smartphones. Why is that?
– We follow the trends. Now the trend is frameless screens. It is necessary to achieve a large display area in relation to the front panel. We have about 93%. But you still need a camera – and there is nowhere to place it, except for the notch.
