State Street Corporation, which ordered the figure of the Fearless Girl in New York, will pay a $ 5 million fine. The company was accused of lowering salaries to women while working on a monument against gender inequality.

In conclusion, the US Department of Labor indicated that State Street discriminated against 305 women and paid them lower wages than men in similar positions. In addition, the same charges were put forward by 15 black vice-presidents-women of a financial firm: they said they were hampered in career advancement in favor of male candidates.

Representatives of the Corporation completely rejected the charges, but agreed to pay $ 4.5 million compensation for the shortage of wages and about $ 500,000 to the fund of the injured employees.

The company stated that it “adheres to the principles of equality in pay” and ensures that they are observed. Officials from the department noted that violations in the work of the company continued from 2010. The difference in pay was first discovered in March 2012.

The monument “Fearless Girl” was installed on the eve of the International Women’s Day – March 7, 2017. She was placed in front of the Wall Street Bull in New York in protest against the belittling of the role of women in the stock market and the largest US companies.
