The National Center for Cybersecurity of the United Kingdom, in conjunction with the FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security, issued a warning on a large-scale Russian campaign for cyber espionage.
According to the statement of British and American experts, hacker groups, “highly likely” acting with the support of the Russian government, attacked millions of routers in government agencies, large companies and critical infrastructure facilities.
With the help of captured devices, hackers were allegedly going to organize attacks on the “man in the middle” system. The purpose of these attacks was not only to steal information useful for intelligence or intellectual property, but also to gain a foothold in the networks of victims.
The Russian embassy in Britain denies the accusations of cyber attacks against British computer networks. The press service of the diplomatic mission added that they would like to receive from the authorities of the United Kingdom similar statements about the lack of intent to attack Russian facilities.
