The film of the artistic director of the Gogol-Center Kirill Serebrennikov under the script of Mikhail Idov “Summer” entered the contest program of the International Cannes Film Festival, the organizers of the event said.
The painting, which was completed in February, tells about the early years of Viktor Tsoi’s career – recording his first record, his relations with other cult musicians and the formation of the Leningrad Rock Club.
Serebrennikov was detained on August 22, 2017 – a month after the start of filming “Summer” – in the case of the theft of 68 million rubles through the organization founded by him “The Seventh Studio.” The next day the director was sent under house arrest.
The last application for extension of the house arrest until 19 July Serebrennikov received the Basmanny Court on April 12. In the event that this petition is granted, the director will not be able to attend the Cannes Festival, which will take place from 8 to 19 May.
In support of Serebrennikov many cultural figures have repeatedly appeared , including Alexander Sokurov, Andrei Zvyagintsev, Mark Zakharov, Inna Churikova, Dmitry Kharatyan and Mikhail Shirvindt, and Australian actress Keith Blanchett.
