Apple ordered to pay $ 502 million for patent infringement

The Texas court found Apple guilty of violating a number of patents for the use of communication technologies – speech on voice and video calls. The claimant was the company VirnetX, which will now receive from Apple 502.6 million dollars.

Against the backdrop of this news, VirnetX shares rose 44% after a few hours. The company accused Apple of violating four patents relating to FaceTime, iMessage and security-related functions. The Cupertino Corporation rejected the claim.

The companies are not the first time they meet in court: the conflict between Apple and VirnetX has been going on since 2010. In the previous proceedings, Apple was ordered to pay $ 302 million, but later the amount increased to $ 439.7 million. Thus, VirnetX will receive almost a billion dollars from the Cupertins, unless Apple decides to appeal the verdict.
