The main players of the mobile market are fighting among themselves, trying to eat at least another half a percent. Brands are less compelled to make much more effort to pay attention to, and the question is not only about money. It goes to such companies for good, because it’s more difficult to compete, which means you need to figure out how to present yourself. At our disposal were just three “non-standard” smartphone: two under the Vivo brand and one from the lesser-known Leagoo.
Let’s start with more untwisted Vivo. The parent company of this manufacturer is BBK Electronics. This fact will allow some users not to consider the brand to take “out of nowhere”. In addition, he actively invests in the promotion in the international market: the company’s mobile phones appear in the film “The First Avenger: Confrontation.” Vivo is also the official smartphone of the upcoming World Cups – 2018 and 2022. Now you know more about this Chinese manufacturer.
Externally Vivo V7 and V7 + differ from each other in size – the older model is wider and longer due to the larger display. Their dimensions are 149.3 × 72.8 × 7.9 and 155.9 × 75.8 × 7.7 mm, respectively, the diagonal of the screens is 5.7 and 5.99 inches.
A quick review of Vivo smartphones
The arrangement of the elements on the ends, sidewalls and back panel is identical, on the front side of the “plus” there are a few more sensors above the display. The company decided not to save on the cases – they are made of aluminum with a coating that makes the metal look like plastic.
The resolution of the displays protected by Gorilla Glass 4 is a little surprising: it seemed that HD had been forgotten for a long time, but here we see 720 × 1440 pixels. However, this does not cause discomfort. In addition, this resolution positively affects the performance and battery life of both smartphones.
Performance and battery life
Vivo devices are equipped with the same processors: 8-core Snapdragon 450 with clock speed up to 1.8 GHz. The amount of RAM is also identical – 4 GB. The results of synthetic tests are slightly different, but the performance of mobile phones in standard applications is invisible. As for the built-in memory, we have 32 and 64 GB for V7 and V7 +, respectively.
All three of the smartphones in this article are not supported by Wi-Fi networks in the 5 GHz band. Critical this aspect is not called, but overloaded air can play a negative role.
The battery capacity of the V7 + is 3225 mAh. The younger model received a slightly smaller battery (3000 mAh), which, again, is dictated by the dimensions of the mobile phone. By the way, some benchmarks display information about batteries under 4000 mAh, which is not true. The differences are minimal and do not affect the habit of installing a smartphone for recharging every night. As befits inexpensive phones, both Vivo devices received a microUSB connector, not Type-C.
The 3.5-mm jack was left in place, which was suddenly deprived of Leagoo (it will be discussed below).
The fingerprint reader located on the back panel works quickly and efficiently. The same goes for the face scanner. Yes, he can pierce faces, but delays with recognition were not observed, and failure to operate met in a couple of percent of cases. The only downside is that when you unblock the print, you just need to touch the scanner, and the front scanner requires pre-pressing the power button. However, this is the algorithm in most mobile phones.
Opening the SIM card tray, you can be surprised: it holds two SIM cards and a memory card. That is, microSD is installed not instead of one of the SIM, but has a dedicated place. This applies to both V7 and V7 +.
The sound of the loudspeaker is far from perfect, however it is clean and loud, sometimes even low frequencies are pierced. And, somewhat unexpectedly, the smaller smartphone turned out to be louder than the more expensive fellow. In the headphones, the picture is much better – the basses clearly appear, the mid and high frequencies are in place.
The interface is smart enough, but the version of the operating system is outdated – it’s Android 7.1.2, over which is installed the proprietary shell FunTouch OS, which simulates the operating system from Apple. This prevents the user who previously preferred Android-smartphones and was used to their interface. Changes have touched and system menus. Of course, you can get used to it, but why?
Both smartphones Vivo received the same camera: 16-megapixel main and 24-megapixel frontal. Obviously, lovers of Selfie will be happy, especially since using the built-in software you can make yourself even better.
Conclusions and assessment
These are inexpensive smartphones, which are difficult to compete in the selected price segment. Of the minuses is the low resolution of the display (which, incidentally, does not come into my eyes) and the performance that does not break records. Of the pros – a nice appearance, a good screen, a good camera, an acceptable sound.
