Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was handcuffed by helicopter to the Federal Police in the city of Curitiba in the south of the country. There he began serving his sentence in the corruption case, according to which he was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 12 years and one month.
In Curitiba, he was expected for more than a day, and the delivery of the ex-president was welcomed with fireworks.
According to Brazilian laws, he loses the right to hold elective offices, but still remains the favorite of the presidential elections, which will be held in Brazil in October. 33.4% of Brazilian citizens are ready to support it in the first round of presidential elections.
Lula da Silva led the country from 2003 to 2010.
