Governor of Kemerovo Aman Tuleyev recorded a video message to the residents of Kuzbass. In it, he announced his early resignation in connection with a fire in the shopping center “Winter Cherry” and said that he had done “all that he could.” The video is posted on the Kemerovo Region Administration page on YouTube.
I consider myself to be the right, conscious and the only right decision. Because with such a heavy load, one can not work as governor. Morally it is impossible. Peace and goodness to you. And your families. May the Lord keep each of you and our native Kuznetsk land.
Last updated at 9:37 am : Putin accepted Tuleyev’s resignation, Tass reports . His place will be occupied by the former vice-governor Sergei Tsivilev, who during the meeting in Kemerovo apologized and knelt before the protesters.
Tuleyev headed the Kemerovo region since 1997. The last time he was elected to this position in 2015 and won with 96.69% of the vote. His powers were to expire in 2020.
In 2017, Tuleyev suffered an operation on the spine in Germany, paid for at his expense. Because of his long absence there were rumors of an early resignation. At one of the last meetings, Tuleyev was helped to sit down and get up the plenipotentiary in the Siberian Federal District.
March 25 in the Kemerovo shopping center “Winter Cherry” a fire broke out, the victims of which were 64 people, 41 of them children. On March 27, hundreds of residents of Kemerovo went to a spontaneous rally with demands for the resignation of local authorities and the disclosure of the present death toll. Then Tuleyev called the participants of the action “buzoters” and “opposition force.”
